MG Motor India shows improved sales in March 2020

MG Motors has announced an increase in sales in March 2020 as compared to February 2020. The brand has retailed a total number of 1518 units in the month of March which includes 1402 units of the brand’s popular Hector SUV and 116 units of the MG ZS EV.

The brand claims that the global supply chain disruption was a factor for their dip in sales in February 2020, but the sales performance figures improved in March 2020, until the lockdown was imposed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. MG has since temporarily shut down its plants and suspended production of its vehicles in view of safety towards its customers, employees and collaborators.

The brand has also announced an INR 2 crore grant to obtain gloves, masks, beds, medicines and ventilators for the health and welfare of its employees, their family as well as the community in general. MG is working with the local administrators in Halol, Gujarat, where the brand has its manufacturing facility and its India Headquarters in Gurugram.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, MG started a new initiative to disinfect their cars before delivering it to the customer’s doorstep in a contactless fashion. MG has also decided to make the ‘Disinfect and Deliver’ program a permanent process across the company even after the lockdown is lifted and health situations normalise.

The Disinfect and Deliver program ensures that only sanitized vehicles are being delivered to the customer. MG swabs the new vehicles with disinfectants with emphasis on the frequently touched areas such as the key fob, door handles, steering wheel, gear knob, touchscreen, pushbuttons, seats, parking brake lever, seat belt etc and then covers them with plastic covering before the car’s delivery.

Last month the brand also announced that the MG Hector had bagged over 50,000 bookings and the brand sold more than 20,000 units of the popular SUV in India since its launch. The brand also launched the BS6 emission compliant version of the MG Hector in the petrol variant which employs a 1.5-litre engine that produces 143 ps of power and 250 Nm of torque matched to a DCT automatic gearbox and is available in a manual transmission as well.
