One of the most important elements in the future of electric mobility solution is the availability of fast-charging stations. Electric vehicles are known to reduce carbon emissions and are friendly on the pocket too, but they typically take a long time to recharge, sometimes even overnight, repelling most of the buyer’s. To target this and to provide its customers with a robust charging ecosystem Chinese-owned British heritage brand MG Motors has partnered with Tata Power, an Indian electric utility company and part of the Tata Group to promote the adoption cleaner and greener mobility solutions in India.
MG Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Power on 8th of June 2020 to deploy end-to-end EV charging solutions to MG dealerships spread across India. Tata Power, an integrated power utility company will provide 50kW DC SuperFast chargers at select MG dealership locations, as part of the association.
The 50kW DC SuperFast charging stations will be deployed in key cities across the country and will be accessible by both MG ZS EV customers as well as other EV owners whose vehicles are compatible with the CCS / CHAdeMO charging standards. Both brands together aim to provide a seamless charging experience for their customers.
MG Motor India already has a total of 50 kW 10 SuperFast charging stations across its dealerships in five cities – Mumbai, New Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Tata Power, under the EX Charge brand already has an established EV charging solution with over 180 Charging points spread across 19 different cities in India. The brand also has a digital platform to facilitate a smooth and easy customer experience.
The MG ZS EV was launched in India at an introductory price of 19.88 lakh ex-showroom and the pure electric vehicle is now priced between INR 20.88 to INR 23.58 lakh ex-showroom. The MG ZS EV is powered by a 44.5kWh Ultra High-Density Lithium-Ion IP-67 rated battery pack and a 142.7 PS / 353 Nm electric motor that provides a claimed range of 340 km on a single charge. The MG ZS EV can be charged via a 15 A socket which takes 16-18 hours to attain a full state of charge and 6-8 hours using a 7.4 kW AC fast charger. The MG ZS EV is also compatible with 50 kW DC SuperFast chargers installed at MG dealerships and can attain a 0-80% State of Charge in just 50 minutes.
