MG Motor India aka Morris Garages is planning to bring in another car in India. The brand is likely to showcase this car at their pavilion at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 along with their Vision-i MPV Concept. The large size sedan that might be up on display is likely to be based on the RC-6 which is owned by Baojun of the SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) of which the MG marquee is a subsidiary.
The RC-6 has a cross-over type body with a large grated chrome grille, faux skid plates in black plastic, projector headlamps, muscular bonnet line, a roof that slopes to the end of the boot giving it a very Gran Tourismo effect when viewed from the profile. The tail has a very stylish appearance to it and comes with large wraparound LED taillights and black cladding which run the entire length of the vehicles running-board to meet at the tail, forming a skirt around the bumper.
On the interiors, the car is likely to get twin large displays placed on the same plane like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class which will work as an instrument display and an infotainment system and are expected to come with a lot of connected features. The central console is likely to have a classic gear selector instead of a rotary knob which more and more car manufacturer’s are opting for. The dashboard has a minimalist design and has been kept uncluttered. The car is also likely to come with a Chinese domestic market wheelbase of around 2800mm which translates to a spacious cabin and will be a boon for the comfort-oriented audience.
Under the hood, the large sedan is likely to come with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which produces 143 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque that currently powers the MG Hector. Apart from the turbo petrol engine the brand may also bring the cross over with a 2.0-litre Diesel engine developed by SAIC.
MG might be planning to showcase the car at the Auto Expo 2020 to gauge and receive customer feedback, but it is being speculated that the brand will launch the car for the Indian market in 2021.
