MG Motor India continues to make its mark in the competitive Indian automotive industry, with robust retail sales for October 2023, surpassing 5,000 units during the brand’s Centenary celebrations. October is traditionally significant for the Indian auto sector, driven by increased consumer engagement during the festive season. MG’s strong performance, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, underscores its long-term brand objectives.
In October 2023, MG achieved remarkable retail sales of 5,108 vehicles, marking a substantial year-on-year (YoY) growth of 16.97 per cent. Compared to October 2022, this increased to 741 units, showcasing the brand’s sustained growth, with YoY sales up from 4,367 units. This positive trajectory illustrates MG’s determination to establish itself as a prominent player in the EV market.
The festive sales season played a pivotal role in boosting these sales figures, as customers capitalized on attractive offers and incentives. These customer-centric incentives led to a 2.10 per cent month-on-month (MoM) growth compared to September 2023, with MoM volume growth at 105 units, up from 5,003 units.
MG’s market performance can be attributed to its deliberate range of car models, carefully tailored to meet evolving customer preferences. The brand’s EV lineup has garnered significant attention, reflecting MG’s forward-thinking approach to sustainable transportation. While the current sales stability may not be groundbreaking, it is certainly noteworthy and highlights the brand’s success in a dynamically changing market landscape.
Going forward, MG Motor India will aim to keep up with the strong momentum at the beginning of this quarter, signalling sustainable growth. The brand’s increasing focus on EVs mirrors the broader industry’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation alternatives. As the world shifts toward electric vehicles, MG Motor India is well-positioned to play a significant role in shaping the future of mobility. Remarkably, EVs accounted for a quarter (25 per cent) of MG’s total sales, reinforcing their growing importance in the automotive market.
