Morris Garages India has released its sales report for June 2022. The carmaker reported a total sales of 4,503 units. This, when compared to the June 2021 figure, results in a growth of 27 per cent. MG mentioned that Hector and the all-new ZS EV continue to garner significant sales. Both the models, Hector and ZS EV, are selling at an average of 4,000 units and 1,000 units, respectively. The issue with the semiconductor availability has struck the company badly. To add to the woes are the supply-chain roadblocks and persistent logistical headwinds. But, MG has confirmed that they are taking all the necessary steps to maximise production. As per reports, the situation will get better in H2 2022.

MG recently added a new trim level for its Astor SUV. Under the name of EX, these variants miss out on some of the safety features. Hence, there’s some reduction in the selling price. To name, features like ESC, traction control, hill hold control and hill descent control are not available with the Astor. In terms of mechanicals, this trim is only available with the 1.5-litre petrol engine with the 6-speed manual gearbox.
MG is also looking to expand its EV portfolio in the country. Recently, spy shots of a new compact car emerged on the internet. As per reports, this car will use the platform the same as the one used in Wuling Air EV. As per the timeline, we can expect the EV to go on sale in 2023. MG India also announced that they are planning to launch an EV in the INR 10 to INR 15 lakh price bracket. As far as the dimensions go, the Wuling Air measures 2,900 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,010 mm. For perspective, it is shorter than the Alto by 400 mm. We expect MG India to showcase the car at the Auto Expo 2023.
