On the occasion of World EV Day, MG Motor India made its presence felt. As part of the celebration, the company successfully installed 50+ AC fast chargers. These chargers have come up at more than 25 residential areas and corporate offices across 15 cities in the country. This EV infrastructure upgrade comes under the MG Charge initiative.
The main aim MG Charge initiative is to strengthen the EV charging infrastructure in India. Hence installing residential chargers will create a seamless charging experience for the community. MG is one of the pioneers of the future of electric vehicles in India. The carmaker has undertaken various initiatives to realize the cause. It has struck partnerships with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Jio-bp and Castrol. These will help build a convenient and reliable EV charging ecosystem. The British company mentioned that it will include free-of-cost charging stations and vehicle service assistance.
MG recently announced its retail sales report for August 2022. The figure stood at 3,823 units. Thus, in terms of Month-on-Month sales, the overall numbers have gone down. As earlier, in July, the company sold a marginally higher 4,013 units. In fact, the Year-on-Year numbers too are down as the company had retained 4,315 units in the corresponding period (August 2021).
The main reason for MG India’s sales decline is the ‘volatility in supply chains’, as mentioned by MG. Hence this caused a host of production challenges, which further impacted sales. But MG did mention that the situation will most likely improve in the next few months. In fact, in order to meet the rising demand for its cars in India, MG has undertaken multiple initiatives. Under this, it will facilitate greater localization of parts and components, as well as the introduction of executive vehicle variants in its product mix.
