MG Hector off to a strong start, more than 10,000 bookings received

The much-awaited mid-segment SUV the MG Hector was launched in India at an introductory price of INR 12.18 lakh ex-showroom. The pre-booking on the car started in the first week of June and within a month, the brand has received more than 10,000 orders for the car. More than 50% of which are for the petrol variant, which comes as a surprise in this segment as most customers usually opt for the diesel model, showing a change in trend. Also to note, 75% of the pre-bookings are for the top two variant options. 

The Hector is offered in a choice of Petrol, Petrol Mild-Hybrid and Diesel engine options with a manual transmission as standard and an option of a DCT gearbox only on the Petrol (non-hybrid) model. 

The specifications of the MG Hector engines are as follows:-

Petrol

  • 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which produces 143 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque available in a manual gearbox as well as an automatic DCT (dual clutch transmission)

Petrol Mild Hybrid

  • 1.5-litre turbocharged intercooled with belt starter generator that produces 143 PS of power and 25 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and comes with a 48V Mild-Hybrid system with a lithium-ion battery with regenerative braking capabilities, auto start/stop and 20 Nm E-Boost capabilities.

Diesel

  • 2.0-litre diesel engine which produces 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The MG Hector is offered in four variant options:- 

  • Style
  • Super
  • Smart
  • Sharp

The exteriors of the SUV features a chrome-accented grille, LED headlights, LED DRL, LED taillamps, floating LED indicators, chrome lined windows, machine-finished alloy wheels, shark-fin antenna, dual pane panoramic sunroof, etc. On the interior, the Hector gets a 10.4-inch vertically oriented infotainment system, 7-inch coloured MID, leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, 8 ambient colour lighting, rain sensing wiper, powered tailgate, cruise control etc. 

The production capacity of the Hector in the next two to three months is likely to be at 2,000 units a month and the waiting period of the manual transmission variants is nearly a month whereas the DCT variant customers might have to wait close to about 4 months. The deliveries of the MG Hector have started, and expect to see this new SUV out on the Indian streets finally.
