MG India has now discontinued the Petrol DCT trims for Hector and Hector Plus. And hence customers looking to get an automatic transmission option for the Hector and Hector Plus will have to settle for the 8-step CVT option. The 6-speed dual-clutch came with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The performance figure for this engine stood at 141 BHP and 250 Nm.
Back in February 2021, MG had introduced the CVT gearbox. And hence it was up to the customers to choose either the DCT or the CVT gearbox unit. Moreover, both the DCT and CVT trims had the exact same sticker price trim to trim. And hence it was up to the preference of the customers to opt for their choice of the gearbox. The DCT gearbox for both the Hector and Hector Plus is now no longer available on MG India’s website.
There were multiple customer reviews suggesting that the DCT gearbox was a bit slow. Furthermore, the fuel efficiency of this particular trim was also coming in single digits. These were enough reasons for customers to choose the CVT automatic gearbox over the fuel-guzzling DCT one. CVTs generally are much more efficient than DCT and are more reliable in the long run. Moreover, some other issues are linked with the DCT trims. Back in August 2021, MG recalled around 14,000 units of the BS6 MG Hector DCT for an emission issue. And this was then rectified via a software update.
With the growing demand for SUVs in the market, MG’s Hector has been in much demand. Both the two-row and three-row variants are selling in good numbers. The main USP of the Hector model is its connected car tech. Indians love to buy cars that come loaded with features and this is where Hector scores the most. Moreover, MG is also increasingly expanding its businesses by setting up new dealerships and service points across the country.
