MG Hector beats competition (Harrier, XUV500, Compass) in July ’19 sales

MG Hector has already been sold out for 2019, and the sales for July 2019 reveal that the first product from Morris Garages has hit the right chord in the Indian market. The MG Hector has become the best-selling SUV in the segment beating the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass.

In July 2019, Morris Garages managed to sell 1,508 units of the Hector SUV while Mahindra managed 1,116 units of the XUV500, Tata managed 740 units of the Harrier and Jeep managed 509 units of the Compass. It is evident that the Hector has eaten up the sales of competition, as all of them witnessed a drop in sales compared to the previous month.

Such is the demand for the MG Hector, that bookings have been stopped. However, the brand is considering to ramp up production to meet the high demand for the Hector SUV. MG plans to manufacture 3,000 units of the Hector soon, per month.

Powering the MG Hector is a 1.5L, turbocharged petrol motor producing 143 PS of powe and 250 Nm of torque matched to a DCT automatic gearbox. There is another 1.5L turbo-petrol motor with a 48V mild-hybrid system with lithium-ion battery which provides a 20 Nm e-Boost. The diesel engine is a 2.0L motor producing 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The MG Hector is sold as a 5-seater SUV at the moment and a 7-seater variant with some cosmetic changes is expected to debut late in 2019 or by early 2020. MG is now gearing up to launch their full electric eZS SUV which will rival the likes of Hyundai Kona. However, we expect Morris Garages to have a very competitive price tag for the eZS, making it relatively affordable and is also expected to have a good driving range to make sense in the real world.
