The Chinese-owned British carmaker, MG, has made an announcement related to a price hike on its entire ICE range in India. With this, the flagship SUV, Gloster, too has received a price hike. The base-spec Super variant has also been axed from the lineup. Currently, the Gloster is sold in two variants and 7-seat seating configurations. The prices start from INR 38.08 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
The variants include Sharp, and Savvy six- and seven-seater in 2WD guise see a price hike of INR Rs. 60,000. Meanwhile, the prices of the 4WD variants remain unchanged.
Engines And Mechanicals
Talking of the engine options, the MG Gloster uses the BS6 Phase 2-updated engines – a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel and a 2.0-litre twin turbo-diesel mill. The former motor makes 161 BHP and 375 Nm of torque. Meanwhile the latter belts out 215 BHP and 480 Nm of peak torque. As for the transmission, both engines come matched with an eight-speed automatic unit.
What Is The MG Gloster?
The MG Gloster had made quite an impact when it was launched. The big, three-row, body-on-frame SUV was borrowed from MG’s sister brand Maxus. This brand is owned by the same parent SAIC, and thus the Gloster is essentially the Maxus D90 in China and the LDV D90 in Australia. So, MG Gloster has been rebadged for the Indian market and sold as the flagship of the Morris Garages range with the Gloster name.
Gloster Made An Immediate Impact With Its Sheer Size
The Gloster first made its debut in the Indian market in February 2020. This was at the Indian Auto Expo. The initial impression was that this SUV is big. In fact, this was a bigger vehicle than the other three-row, body-on-frame, premium SUVs on sale in India. This includes the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Alturas G4.
