MG has unveiled the new Astor SUV in the Indian market. The MG Astor is the adaptation of the globally accepted MG ZS platform and designed at the MG Design Centre, UK. The mid-size SUV will come packed with technology and two powerful engine options with manual and automatic transmissions.
MG Astor – Technology
The MG Astor is India’s first car with Artificial Intelligence or AI technology. The MG Astor also becomes the first car in the segment to bring Autonomous Level 2 technology. This will enable the MG Astor with 14 Autonomous Level 2 features thanks to radar and a multipurpose camera. With Autonomous Level 2, the brand boasts that every journey will safe, comfortable and convenient. The MG Astor also comes with Car-As-A-Platform which enables features such as MapMyIndia 4D maps, Park+, Jio Saavn and Koinearth Vehicle Digital Passport. All the technology will be connected by the Jio internet network. This will also enable 80+ connected features through the Next-Gen iSmart technology.
MG Astor – Design Highlights
The MG Astor features the brand’s “emotional dynamism” design philosophy. The design language of the MG Astor combines the expressive character and the sporting DNA of MG cars. MG boasts that the brand has also taken into account the understanding of the Indian customers craft the MG Astor. The brand targets the “young and dynamic” audience with Astor’s sporting DNA and technologies incorporated in the SUV.
The car is designed to be widely admired and comes with a concave celestial grille on the front. The grille is flanked by hawk-eye LED headlamps which incorporate 9 diamond elements. The car features a long hood and a powerful stance from the side. The cabin is set back and the rear glass tapers upwards giving the SUV a sporty look. The rear of the Astor features an aggressive LED cluster taillamp with jewel details. The car also comes with red brake callipers reflecting the sporting DNA of the brand.
MG Astor – Dimensions
The MG Astor measures 4323mm in length, 1650mm in height and 1809mm in width. This makes the Astor longer, wider and taller than most mid-size SUVs in the Indian market. The SUV also features dual-tone alloy wheels in 17-inch size giving the car a strong stance and high ground clearance. The long wheelbase of the Astor also ensures spacious cabin space.
MG Astor – Interiors
The MG Astor comes with a multilayered dashboard with soft-touch materials and a dual-tone leather cabin. The car also comes with contoured 6-way power-adjustable seats shod is leather upholstery that not only offers support but also comfort. The MG Astor also comes with a sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel with controls. The SUV also comes with three steering modes – Normal, Urban and Dynamic.
MG offers the Astor with three interior colour choices – Sangria Red, Iconic Ivory and Tuxedo Black. The car features 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment along with a 7-inch instrument cluster. The SUV also gets a panoramic sunroof with 90% of roof coverage. The car also comes with Digital Key, PM 2.5 Filter, Heated ORVMs, Electric Parking Brake. Rain-sensing wiper, Rear AC vents etc.
MG Astor – Engine Specifications
Powering the MG Astor is a 1349cc BritDynamic 220 Turbo-Petrol engine. The engine produces 140 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. The engine pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. MG is also offering a 1498cc VTI-Tech Petrol engine that produces 110 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a manual transmission and an 8-step CVT automatic option.
MG Astor – Safety
The MG Astor comes with several ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features including Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking. The MG Astor also comes with Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention. The car also comes with Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), Rear Drive Assist (RDA), and a Speed Assist System. Safety features also include 6-airbags as well as 27 standard features like ESP, TCS and HDC.
