Morris Garages is making quite an impact at the Shanghai auto expo 2023. The most talked about product is the MG 7. With its elongated hatchback proportions very similar to that of an Audi A7, eye candy for sure Measuring 4,884mm in length, it falls in the range between BMW’s 3 Series and 5 Series sedans.

What Is The MG 7 All About?

But with a 2,778mm wheelbase, we see plenty of overhangs. This is more visible at the rear where aggressive haunches follow through to a novel rear spoiler. Interestingly enough the rear spoiler will rise at speed, the same as it did in the A7. But this is a three-piece unit. And hence it will also grow in width as it lifts, that’s crazy. In addition to this, when the driver opens the car, the spoiler will also unfurl, a perfect way to greet.

The low front end gets a bold lattice-work grille flanked by deep air intakes. Meanwhile, the LED headlamps hold back to the side of the car. We see the prominent oversized MG logo sitting just above the grille in front of the bonnet. Five-spoke alloys and four exhaust pipes add to the sporty outlook.

More Drama On The Inside

On the inside, we get to see MG’s calibre. The car looks pretty upmarket, with a nice touch of style and quality. The seamless twin panel stretches across the front of the dash, thus providing driver instruments and infotainment. There’s also a Bose-supplied music system along with a long, opening, full-length glass roof.

Those exhaust pipes at the back make sure that this is an ICE and not an electric. Customers get two choices of engines. First is a 2.0-litre turbo with 189kW and 405 Nm of torque. The second is a 1.5 turbo with 136kW and 300 Nm. With the 2.0-litre motor, we get a 9AT gearbox. Meanwhile, with the 1.5-litre turbo, we get a 7DCT gearbox. Performance is brisk with 0 to 100 kmph coming in at 6.5 seconds. Although the drivers can further level up the excitement with an X-Power button. This adds to the engine notes and sharpens the steering response.
