Mercedes-Benz India will recall 2,179 units of GL, ML and R-Class. As per reports, owners who have bought either of the above models between October 2005 and January 2013 are a part of this recall. Mercedes-Benz will then inspect the car thoroughly. The announcement concerns a potential leakage in the vehicle’s brake booster due to corrosion. As per the carmaker, the car needs more braking power to decelerate, which is a safety concern. This could increase the braking distance significantly.
In fact, Mercedes has also claimed that the entire brake system could fail in some rare cases or under hard braking. Thus, owners of these vehicles should not drive their cars until inspection. As per reports, this is a part of a global recall announcement from Mercedes-Benz. All in all, a total of 1 million vehicles worldwide have been affected by this issue.
Mercedes-Benz will recall around 993,000 units worldwide to fix this issue. Out of this, 70,000 are from Germany, and 292,287 units are from the US. Mercedes Benz will scrutinise the car properly and take necessary actions out of 3. If there’s any sign of any further corrosion, the carmaker will remove the rubber sleeve. Then the owners can drive the car without any further action or follow. But, if there is some advanced corrosion, the car will undergo a brake efficiency test.
Upon completing this test, owners can drive their vehicles without any work required. Then Mercedes-Benz will send a notice later to bring the vehicle for further inspection. If at all there’s a requirement, Mercedes-Benz will replace the brake booster. Meanwhile, the dealership will replace the entire brake booster housing unit if the vehicle fails the brake efficacy test. However, this is subject to the availability of the parts required.
