After selling more than 40 million models with more than 1.2 million examples sold in its current-generation German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new facelift model of its popular E-Class at a Digital Press Conference in Stuttgart, Germany.
The new E-Class features redesigned headlights with inverted tick mark LED daytime running lights, a wider chrome-studded grille with a large Mercedes-Benz ‘Three-pointed Star’ in the centre, a vertically slated dark grille on the AMG avatar, refreshed bumper, character line on the wide bonnet, multi-spoke alloy wheels, a character line that runs along the shoulder, panoramic sunroof, new design triangular wraparound LED taillamps and chrome-tipped exhaust.
On the inside, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift features a multilayered dashboard with textured materials, dual-screen driver’s information display and infotainment system laced with MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) advanced telematics integrated with connectivity features, control mounted flat bottomed steering wheel with a new design, toggle-style switches for the climate control and a touchpad controller on the central tunnel. The new car also includes clever features on the seats such as ‘Energizing Seat Kinetics’ that alters the seated posture by movements and also offer musical lighting modes and massage function.
In the engine department, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift for North-America features conventional and electrified powertrains – 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 255 hp of power and 370 Nm of torque mated to a 9G-Tronic (9-Speed automatic) transmission with Rear-Wheel-Drive and 4Matic All-Wheel-Drive. A 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid engine that produces 121 electric and 315 Hp combined power output and 700 Nm of combined peak torque coupled to a 9G-Tronic transmission. The new E-Class will also be offered with a in-line six-cylinder EQ Boost engine with a 3.0-litre maximum displacement that produces 363 hp of power and 500 Nm of torque. The AMG enhanced variant will be offered with a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged engine with EQ Boost and auxiliary electric compressor that produces 429 hp of power and 520 Nm of torque mated to an AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed automatic gearbox and AMG performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift was slated to be unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show but an Injunction from the Federal Council only days before the opening of the exhibition to the Media, led to the complete cancellation of the event. The decision comes due to the recent appearance of the COVID-19 (Corona Virus) disease in Switzerland.
