Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new CLE class. The car is offered in both coupe and cabriolet styles.
Mercedes has taken inspiration from the outgoing E-Class coupe / cabriolet. This new CLE-Class replaces both the C and E-Class coupe. In terms of design, the car gets a long bonnet, a big grille with shark nose and a sculpted roof and bulbous C-pillar. The rear window is steeply raked and seamlessly integrated into the boot.
The long size of the car is masked by its design. In terms of dimension, the new CLE is longer than even the E-Class cabriolet. Its closest rival BMW 4 Series coupe is smaller than the CLE as well.
Coming to the insides, Mercedes has used the familiar layout. We can see similarities with the C-Class. The car gets a 2+2 seating layout and the space is claimed to be higher than even the C-Class coupe. In terms of features, the car gets a large 12.3-inch driver instrument cluster along with an 11.9-inch vertically oriented display. The boot space is claimed to be 420 litres.
The German carmaker is offering both four and six-cylinder options on the CLE-Class. Customers can choose amongst both diesel and petrol engines along with rear or all-wheel drive options.
The entry level CLE 200d gets a 2.0L turbo diesel with 197 HP and 440 Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels. The CLE 200 meanwhile comes with a 2.0L turbo petrol motor rated at 205 HP and 320 Nm.
In the CLE 300 4Matic, the same engine develops 258 HP and 400 Nm. The top-of-the-line 3.0-litre petrol is offered in the CLE 450 4Matic with 380 HP and 500 Nm. Mercedes claims a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h.
All these engines are paired with a 7-speed automatic. Customers can also configure their RWD models like the CLE 200 with optional all-wheel drive.
Also standard is 48V mild hybrid technology with all engines. This adds an extra 23
HP and 200 Nm for short intervals under acceleration.
Two more powerful AMG derivatives of the CLE are also expected at a later stage.
While the carmaker has not shared any immediate plans of launching the car in India, we can expect the car to land up on our shores down the line.
