Luxury cars have become quite a normal sight out on the Indian streets nowadays. For a long time now, Mercedes-Benz has been leading the sales charts by a healthy margin, while others are trying to catch up. Point to note, mass market cars have become so expensive lately, that those who can afford, are now stretching their budget and driving home a luxury car.
Among the top luxury brands, Mercedes-Benz has topped the list with E-Class LWB being its top seller. Mercedes-Benz has been rapidly growing its unit sales for FY2023. The 31% growth shows an increase in unit sales from 12,056 to 15,790 from 2022 to 2023 respectively. The E-Class LWB alone, shows growth of 13% as compared to last year by selling a total of 3,159 units for the present year. For FY2022, Mercedes-Benz GLS was the best seller in the luxury SUV segment of the Indian market.
Preceding Mercedes-Benz is BMW which is up 29% as compared to last year with unit sales of 11,175 units in 2023 from 8,690 units in 2022. The top-selling variants of BMW are 3-Series followed by X1, 2-Series, X5, 5-Series, X7, 6-Series and X3.
The third position was bagged by Audi India, which marked a growth of 46% by increase in sales units from 3,511 cars in 2022 to 5,120 units in 2023. Audi India retails cars such as the E-Tron GT, RS E-Tron GT, E-Tron Sportback, E-Tron, A4, S5 Sportback, RS 5 Sportback, A6, A8L, Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, Q8 & RSQ8 in India.
With Volvo on the fourth position, it has sold a total of 1,879 units with a growth of 30% as compared to last year. For FY2023, Volvo had ranked up a position leaving Jaguar Land Rover behind. The XC60 and XC40 were the top-sellers being sold to 769 and 600 customers respectively. The Volvo XC90 for the present year was sold to 334 buyers.
Land Rover faced a downfall of 5% and has been relegated to the fifth position with total sales of 1,678 units. Mini, owned by BMW, managed sales of 644 units which was a downfall of 2.9%. Jaguar though recorded 12% growth with sales of 222 units.
