While the facelift model is due for 2021, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the E-Class E 350d variant in India priced at INR 75.29 lakh ex-showroom. This becomes the most powerful diesel variant of the E-Class sedan, and is BS6 compliant of course. Sales will commence post the Covid-19 Lockdown period in India, and the model has finally been re-introduced. The BS6 E-Class E 350d will only be sold in a single ‘Elite’ variant.
Powering the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 350d is a 3.0L, 6-cylinder, turbocharged diesel motor producing 286 HP of peak power @ 3400 – 4600 RPM and 600 Nm of peak torque between 1200 – 3200 RPM matched to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. With peak torque being available really low down the revv range, this luxury sedan can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed limited to 250 kmph. This is the fastest E-Class sedan, of course 2nd to the Mercedes-AMG E 62 S 4MATIC+ which sprints to 100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds.
Standard features on the E-Class E 350d include chrome accents on the front grille, LED headamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, Artico leather upholstery, ambient lights with 2 colour zones, Burmester premium sound system, reclining function for the rear seats, large panoramic sunroof, 18″ alloy wheels, 3-zone climate control, exclusive open-power black wood interior trims, air suspension, memory package for the front seat + steering column & wing mirrors, 360-degree camera support, etc.
For 2021, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will get a comprehensive update even though it is just a facelift. The 2021 model will get a fully reworked front and rear design, new alloy wheels, new interiors and also updated engines. The new E 350d variant of the E-Class rivals the BMW 530d which has been a drivers across markets. Mercedes-Benz also had the E-Class All-Terrain station wagon on sale here in India, but it remains a rare sight as the luxury car buyer has not acquired the taste for such a body style.
