Big news from the house of Mercedes-Benz. As per reports, the German carmaker has removed the GLC SUV from its official website in India. This move suggests that the model has been discontinued for the local market. There were also reports from a few dealers, who confirmed the same. They did mention that the model has been discontinued, but some stock still remains with dealers for sale.
The first generation of the luxury SUV was launched in 2015. Since then Mercedes-Benz has seen global sales of the GLC grow to almost 2 million. Thus making it one of the German carmaker’s strongest-selling models. The first-gen Mercedes-Benz GLC made its debut in the Indian market in 2016. This was followed by a facelift update that was introduced in 2019. The SUV last received an update when we saw the MY21 version arriving in January 2021.
The outgoing iteration of the GLC uses either a 2.0-litre petrol or diesel engine mated. Both these engines are matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The petrol motor makes 194 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the diesel mill makes 192 BHP and 400 Nm of torque.
We are aware that the second-generation model went on sale globally last year. And thus, it should arrive in the Indian market in the third quarter of this year.
The 2nd generation Mercedes-Benz GLC is marginally larger in dimensions and also benefits from a more luxurious interior. It also benefits from a new range of engines, including three new plug-in hybrid drivetrains. All petrol and diesel engines on the 2nd generation GLC are electrified. The SUV shares its underpinnings largely with the Mercedes C-Class sedan. Once launched, it will rival the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Jaguar F-Pace.
