India’s leading luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-electric EQB in India. The SUV is priced at INR 74.5 lakh and will be brought in as a completely built unit (CBU).
In terms of design, the EQB shares its platform with the GLB. It also has the same overall design. That said, the all-electric vehicle has some elements unique to the car. These include a blanked grille, new design headlamps and tail maps, revised front and rear bumpers and full-width light bars on both ends. Mercedes has equipped the EQB with 18-inch alloys and offers the SUV in 5 colour shades – Cosmos Black, Rose Gold, Digital White, Mountain Grey, and Iridium Silver.
Coming to the interiors, the cabin layout too is shared with the GLB. Uniquely, the AC vents on the EQB get gold highlighting. That said, the main selling point of the car is the 7-seat configuration which improves the practicality of the car. Mercedes has said that it is positioning the car as a 5+2 seater vehicle suitable for families with kids or with pets.
Other features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and touchscreen system, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, and electrically-adjustable front seats.
In India, the EQB is equipped with a 66.5 kWh battery pack. It has a claimed WLTP range of 423 km. The power rating of the propulsion system is 228 HP and 390 Nm. It gets all-wheel-drive as standard thanks to its dual motor setup of one motor on each axle. Mercedes claims that the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds with a top speed of 160 km/h.
Mercedes will also offer an 8 year warranty on the battery pack. The EQB can be charged from 10-1oo% in 6 hours 25 minutes using a 11 kW AC charger. Using the 100 kW DC fast charger, the car can be charged from 10-80 % in just 32 minutes.
