Leader of the luxury car market in India, Mercedes-Benz is celebrating 25 years of production on Indian soil. Mercedes-Benz began local assembly of cars back in 1994 and it was located in the Telco premises, now known as Tata Motors. in 2009, Mercedes-Benz started a new journey with more than 100 acres of land in Chakan, Pune for local manufacturing. This same new facility is also celebrating a 10 year anniversary making it a double celebration for Mercedes-Benz in India.
As of date, the Mercedes-Benz plant in Pune has a flexible assembly line building more than 9 models under 1 roof. The brand builds the sedan range including CLA Coupe, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class & Maybach S-Class. The local built SUVs include GLA, GLC, GLE & GLS.
More than 730 people are employed at the Mercedes-Benz facility in Pune. Mercedes-Benz expanded their production unit in June 2015. With a total investment of more than INR 2,200 crores, this is the largest production capacity for any luxury car brand in India. The brand also has the largest sales & service network across 47 cities via 95 touchpoints.
Mercedes-Benz is now all set to launch the GLC facelift in December 2019 and the new-generation GLE SUV will be launched in the Long Wheelbase avatar in January 2020. Between January 2019 – September 2019, the brand has retailed over 9,915 units.
