Mercedes-Benz has officially started the local production of its highly anticipated sixth-generation Long Wheelbase (LWB) E-Class at its state-of-the-art facility in Chakan, Pune. This marks a significant milestone for the luxury car manufacturer, underscoring its commitment to the Indian market and its manufacturing capabilities.
The new E-Class LWB is set to redefine luxury in the Indian automotive market. It boasts a redesigned front fascia, reprofiled LED headlamps, and quad-tail lights with unique star-shaped brake lights. The vehicle also features flush-fitting door handles, adding to its sleek and modern aesthetic.
Inside, the E-Class LWB offers unparalleled luxury with its “Superscreen” setup, which includes a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the center, an additional screen on the passenger side, and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster. The rear seats are power-reclining with an ottoman function, ensuring maximum comfort for passengers. Other notable features include air suspension and rear-wheel steering.
Mercedes-Benz has integrated a plethora of technological advancements into the new E-Class LWB. The vehicle is equipped with the latest MBUX system, which offers superior safety and digital assistance systems. One of the standout features is the center airbag, designed to protect the driver and front passenger during a side collision. This airbag, situated in the driver’s seat cushion, activates upon impact, showcasing Mercedes-Benz’s dedication to passenger safety.
The local production of the E-Class LWB highlights Mercedes-Benz’s shift towards more digitized and customized production methods. The automated body shop line for the rear floor exemplifies the highest standards in quality, precision, and efficiency. The sixth-generation E-Class LWB is set to be officially launched in India on October 9, 2024. It will be available with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engines paired with a mild-hybrid system. Both engines will be offered with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The E-Class LWB will compete with the BMW 5 Series LWB in the Indian market, promising to set new benchmarks in the luxury car segment.
