Mercedes-AMG SL 55 4MATIC+ & SL 63 4MATIC+ go on sale

Mercedes Benz has confirmed that the new Mercedes‑AMG SL is now available for configuration and ordering. Returning back to its roots, the new edition gets a classic soft-top, thus enhancing the sporty character. For customers looking for more practical offerings, they can choose the 2+2 seater roadster variant. Moreover, this is also the first time that the roadster trim gets a fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The cherry on the cake is that 2022 marks 70 years of the ‘SL’ brand.

Ever since the nameplate first came in 1952, the SL has become one of the most renowned Mercedes ever. SL has had its connections with the racing fraternity. And today as well, Mercedes has kept the legacy. The models are completely developed independently by Mercedes-AMG. Prices for the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 4MATIC+ start at EUR 158,240.25. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ gets a sticker price of EUR 187,097.75.

Engine and Performance

Powering the SL is the AMG 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine, which is available in two output levels. These powerful power units follow the ‘One Man, One Engine’, principle, thus ensuring the utmost quality. In the top-spec SL 63 4MATIC+, the drivetrain develops 585 hp and provides a maximum torque of 800 Nm. 0 to 100 kmph comes in just under 3.6 seconds; meanwhile, the top speed is 315 kmph. The other power unit that propels the SL 55 4MATIC+ is the same V8 engine. But the performance figure reads as 476 hp of power and 700 Nm of maximum torque. For this, the 0 to 100 kmph run comes under 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 295 kmph. Both the models get AMG’s Speedshift MCT 9G transmission unit as standard.

Long Hardware List

Furthermore, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive technology is also a standard fitment on both models. And for the first time, a series-production Mercedes‑AMG vehicle features a multi-link front suspension with five control arms arranged entirely within the rim. Similarly, at the rear axle, a 5‑link design likewise controls the wheels. With this, the car gets improved kinematic that resulting in better control and agility. The SL 55 4MATIC+ gets the AMG Ride Control steel suspension system. This equips the car with particularly high-performance aluminium shock absorbers and lightweight coil springs.

Personalization Options

Matching performance, customers also get a long list of personalization options for both the SL models. There are five exterior design packages to choose from. These are the AMG Aerodynamics Package, AMG Carbon Package, AMG Chrome Package, AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II. In terms of paint shades, customers get 12 options, which includes two exclusive SL tones, hyper blue metallic and Manufaktur Monza grey magno and three roof colour variants.
