Mercedes-Benz has launched the Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupé in India priced at INR 2.48 crore, ex-showroom. The brand has launched the performance-oriented thoroughbred sports car in a digital launch event, from Mercedes-Benz India’s innovative ‘Consultation Studio’, following the new social distancing norms. The Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupé features that brand’s motorsport technology in production form.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupé is powered by a Mercedes-AMG 4.0-litre V8 engine with twin turbochargers designed for maximum performance and built by a highly qualified team following the ‘one man, one engine’ principle. In addition, the powertrain features dynamic engine mounts and a dry-sump lubrication system that allows a low installation position. The 8-pot mill generates 585 Hp of power and 700 Nm of torque.
The engine is paired to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G transmission with double-declutching and RaceStart function that allows ultra-fast gear changes along with small differences in engine speed to allow optimal translation adjustment and minimal interruption in tractive power.
The power from the 4.0-litre V8 front mid-mounted engine is transmitted to the rear-mounted transaxle AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed transmission via a dual-clutch system connected through a rigid Torque Tube so that they are resistant to bending. Inside the torque tube is a torsion-resistant extremely lightweight carbon-fibre driveshaft to transmit the force. The Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupé can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kmph in 3.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 318 kmph. The GT R Coupé features AMG Ceramic high-performance composite brakes for effective deceleration.
In terms of design and styling, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupé features an ultralight carbon fibre exterior, a long muscular bonnet with raised ridges and hood vents, vertically slated AMG specific grille, layered front apron with large intakes and aero ducts, AMG side gills, rounded wheel arches, 20-inch AMG forged alloy wheels with 5-spoke-split design, wrap-around tail lamps, wing spoiler, rear diffuser, aero ducts on the rear apron, central exhaust tips, etc.
On the inside, the GT R Coupé features a sporty driver-focused cockpit styled dashboard with an AMG Performance steering wheel in black DINAMICA microfiber with top-stitching and paddle shifters, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch central infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, dedicated traction control rotary knob in the centre, carbon-fibre embellishments, ergonomically positioned touch-control buttons, AMG Bucket Seats, etc.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupé is customizable with Mercedes-Benz’s renowned ‘Designo’ platform. The Mercedes-AMG GT R Coupé can be purchased through select Mercedes-Benz dealerships and online digital contactless sales platform.
