Mercedes-AMG, the performance division of Mercedes-Benz, has revealed their latest edition in the entry-level GT segment. This new offering is the AMG GT 43. This entry-level model will make the AMG brand more accessible to consumers.
Several cosmetic changes distinguish the AMG GT 43 compared to its more powerful siblings. It features an active louvre system at the front, which opens and closes to reduce drag, and a new retractable spoiler at the rear with five different positions to optimize handling. The overall styling is less aggressive, with a smaller front grille, reprofiled front bumpers, and smaller 19-inch alloys.
Under the hood, Mercedes has removed the 4.0-litre bi-turbo unit. The AMG GT 43 is now powered by a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid turbo 4-cylinder engine. This engine, which also powers the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, produces an impressive 421 BHP and 500 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Despite its smaller engine, the AMG GT 43 does not compromise on performance. The car can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, only 1.4 seconds slower than its range-topping V8-powered ‘GT 63’ variant. The top speed is clocked at 280 km/h. The AMG GT 43 is also lighter than its predecessors, tipping the scales at 1,775 kg. This weight reduction contributes to its agility and responsiveness.
The price of the AMG GT 43 has not been announced yet and the car will go on sale later this year. However, we can say that it will be the most affordable AMG car once launched.
