Over the past 55 years of operations, AMG has produced and developed some of the world’s most memorable performance machines. During this time, Mercedes-Benz’s iconic G-class has enjoyed a unique position in the AMG portfolio for over 20 years. Thanks to its cult status and off-road performance, the G-Class has been chosen by Mercedes-AMG to celebrate its 55th anniversary. Therefore, the brand has launched the special edition G 63 ‘Edition 55’ performance SUV that represents individuality and exclusivity.
The special edition G-class retains its iconic boxy design with rounded-off edges for a thoroughly modern yet retro look. Offered in Obsidian Black Metallic or Opalite White colour schemes, the G 63 ‘Edition 55’ also sports colour-coordinated AMG emblems. Mercedes-AMG has also equipped the SUV with 22-inch, forged wheels with a cross-spoke design and a Matt Tantalum Grey paint finish. Additionally, the automaker offers the performance SUV with a high-sheen rim flange and AMG Night Package/Night Package II.
Along with a silver chrome finished fuel filler cap, the G 63 ‘Edition 55’ gets a contrast black/red interior. Customers can experience the stainless steel door sill trims with AMG lettering illuminated in red and black AMG floor mats. The performance SUV also gets the AMG Performance steering wheel using DINAMICA microfiber that also contains ‘AMG’ ’55’ badging. With the high-quality velour mats featuring red contrast stitching and ‘Edition 55’ lettering in red, the SUV also sports AMG seats.
These feature a specific design with two-tone Nappa leather upholstery finished in a classic red/black colour scheme for exclusivity. Overall, the exclusive ambience of the interior is rounded off by the AMG trim elements finished in matt carbon. Interested customers can now place orders for G 63 ‘Edition 55’ until October 2022, wherein they’ll receive a customised AMG Indoor Car Cover. This cover features a breathable outer skin made of tear-resistant synthetic fibre fabric and antistatic inner fabric made of flannel.
The special edition performance SUV continues to use the same 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 from the standard G 63 AMG. The motor produces a whopping 585 PS and 850 Nm via a 40:60 ratio, all-wheel-drive system. For enhanced off-road performance, the SUV sports the signature AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension and three differential locks. Along with a quick-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission, the SUV also sports an independent, double-wishbone front suspension and adjustable dampers.
