Mercedes-EQ introduced the flagship luxury sedan, the EQS this year. Now Mercedes-AMG is introducing the AMG power avatar of the EQS electric luxury sedan. The AMG branded version will be called AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ and becomes the brand’s first all-electric AMG vehicle. The brand also revealed that further electric AMG models will appear in the near future.
Powering the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ is a powerful electric powertrain with one motor each at the front and rear axles. As standard, the AMG power electric vehicle produces 658 Hp of power and 950 Nm of torque. With the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package, the EQS 53 is capable of producing 761 Hp of power and 1020 Nm of torque, in RACE START mode with boost function. The car channels the power to the asphalt using an AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds. But this performance requires a battery charge level of at least 80 per cent and with the optional performance package. The top speed with the optional pack is limited to 250 kmph. As standard, the EQS AMG can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds with a minimum 80% battery charge. The top speed in the standard package is limited to 220 kmph. The car also features efficient energy recuperation when braking with an output of 300 kW.
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ features a cab-forward design with a hatchback. The body of the luxury electric SUV features reduced joints and seamless transitions. On the front, the car features AMG-specific black panel grille with hot-stamped vertical struts in chrome. The car also gets an integrated Mercedes star and “AMG” lettering. The front apron also features an AMG A-wing design finished in high-gloss black accented with chrome trim. The car features a progressive roofline with a high rake on the rear windscreen. This enables the vehicle to have a coefficient of drag of just 0.23 Cd.
The luxury electric sedan comes with AMG seats with individual graphics and special seat covers in ARTICO man-made leather. The seats also come with MICROCUT microfibre and red contrasting topstitching. As an option, the car is also available in Nappa leather upholstery with AMG-specific seat graphics. The cabin also features AMG sports pedals, AMG floor mats, AMG door sill trims with illuminated logos, AMG performance steering wheel in Nappa leather etc. The EQS 53 also comes with MBUX Hyperscreen with AMG-specific functions and displays.
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ comes with features such as AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE with an “Authentic” acoustic composition as standard. The car also comes with driver-selectable sound characteristics “Balanced”, “Sport” and “Powerful” as an option. The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package also includes the AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE “Performance”.
The EQS 53 4Matic+ also comes with rear-axle steering as standard with a steering angle of up to 9 degrees. The car also comes with AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes. These include driving modes – “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+” and “Individual”. The sedan also comes with AMG high-performance compound braking system. The EQS also gets 21- or 22-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in Aero or Heritage design.
