Maserati has revealed the track-only MC20-based Project24. Though we only see renders of the model, for now, it previews the new hardcore track-version car. Maserati did not reveal the price or when the deliveries will begin. However, the company announced it will be making only 62 units of the track-only Project24.
The Project24 is designed by Centro Stile Maserati and gets a completely new look. As a track-only car, Maserati has pushed the design boundaries to the limits. The result is a car that combines beauty and genuine sporty capabilities that will make it an instant classic collector’s item.
The Project24 gets an all-new carbon fibre bodywork with some specific components in natural fibres. The inclusion of a new hood and the large rear spoiler also offers increased levels of downforce. At the front, the main headlights are replaced by a thin LED light strip. The two-seater non-road-homologated Maserati also complies with a host of FIA race safety requirements. One of them is the FIA-approved rain light. On the sides, the Project24 uses bespoke 18-inch forged aluminium wheels with slick tyres. The wheels also get a centre-locking system. Meanwhile, the front and side windows of the car are made out of Lexan to keep the weight low.
On the inside, the Project24 gets an adjustable racing pedal box and steering column. The carbon fibre treatment also extends to the multi-function steering wheel, which also gets a built-in display. It also gets racing seats with a 6-point racing safety belt. As it is meant for the track, it also gets a data logger, an FIA-homologated safety roll cage and an FIA-spec fire extinguisher. Other standard features include air conditioning and an adjustable racing ABS and traction control system.
There are also a host of optional accessories available. Starting with a racing passenger seat so that you could take someone along for the ride of their life. Some other optional equipment includes a rear-view camera display, telemetry recording, in-car camera for video recording, TPMS, and more.
The Maserati Project24 uses the same state-of-the-art 3.0-litre twin-turbo 90-degree V6 Nettuno engine as the MC20. However, Maserati has added new turbochargers, which take the power output to 740 HP. Power goes to the rear-wheels only via a 6-speed sequential racing gearbox with paddle shifters. It also gets a racing clutch and a limited-slip self-locking mechanical differential. In comparison, the road-going MC20 uses an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The company is using an ultra-light carbon fibre central monocoque chassis to help keep the weight low. Maserati claims that Project24 has a dry weight of less than 1,250 kg. In comparison, the MC20 weighs 1,500 kg. It also features an FIA-homologated FT3 120-litre fuel tank to meet the FIA race safety regulations.
As for the suspension, the Project24 uses a double-wishbone setup up front with a semi-virtual steering axis. The track-only car also gets adjustable racing dampers. The front and rear anti-roll bars are also adjustable. As for the brakes, it uses Brembo CCMR ventilated racing brakes with a bespoke brake cooling setup.
