Maruti YJC MUV in 2016 to be based on the WagonR

Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a cheaper MUV to slot in below the popular Ertiga. Codenamed as the YJC, this new MUV could be a 7-seater variant of the WagonR which was revealed last year in Indonesia. One launched, the WagonR based MUV will go head-on with the upcoming Datsun Go+.

Maruti plans to launch the YJC by 2016 and will also export the vehicle to South East Asian markets. The company has set an optimistic sales target of 80,000 units in the first year itself.

Based on the WagonR, it could result in a lot of part sharing, and hence, a very competitive price tag.

Chances are, that Maruti will even offer their latest hit, the AMT automatic gearbox with this MUV in India.

Although a 7-seater, the space available will be on the shorted side compared to the likes of the Maruti Ertiga. Third row seats will be best suited for kids.

Pricing can be expected to be in the range of Rs. 4.5 lakh – Rs. 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
