With the Celerio AMT, Maruti realised that there is a significant demand for the automatic transmission in the Indian market. Taking this Celerio AMT’s success story into consideration, Maruti now plans to introduce an automatic variant to the Swift on 16th September, 2014.
The automatic transmission will be the same unit currently plonked in the Dzire. A 4-speed automatic transmission and not an AMT. Since the Swift is the most premium hatch from the Maruti stable, the AMTs cost cut ride would not do justice to the price the automatic variant would demand. The 4-speed automatic from the Dzire on the other hand provides a smoother and refined driving experience the customers would appreciate a little more.
There are not details if Maruti will launch the automatic variant of the Swift on the facelift model. Apart from this, Maruti is also expected to give a facelift to the Alto 800 in the last quarter of 2014. An Alto K10 AMT is also being planned for an early 2015 launch.
Expect the pricing of the Swift automatic to be higher by Rs. 50,000 at least compared to the variant on which it is introduced. The Dzire automatic is currently available only on the mid Vxi variant.
