Maruti Suzuki has finally started their EV journey in India. India’s largest car manufacturer, has today for the first time ever teased their ‘e Vitara’. This all-new model, which is an all-electric SUV, is the first eBorn product from the brand. This would be launched in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. When launched, the new Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta electric.
Built on the HEARTECT-e platform, this e Vitara uses a platform which has been specifically designed for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV). This should make it clear, that as of date, there is no other product from the Maruti Suzuki stable with which components would be shared for this new e Vitara. However, in the future, in typical Maruti Suzuki scalability fashion, expect parts sharing across multiple body styles. Maruti Suzuki is also promising cutting edge safety features for the e Vitara.
This new electric SUV is going to be a 5-seater model, and is a global model which will be manufactured in India, for the world. So the exports potential is huge. In fact, Suzuki Motor Corporation already revealed this concept in Milan, Italy; before an official reveal in India.
The reach and market acceptance that Maruti Suzuki enjoys in the Indian market, is unparalleled. Hence, selling the product might not be a hurdle. What is an issue though, is the charging infrastructure. Maruti Suzuki reveals that they will focus on building an EV ecosystem, which would back their new electric product launches for an easy ownership experience. Obviously, the brand will offer home charging solutions for the e Vitara, but will also develop a countrywide fast charging network across brand dealerships & service points. Maruti Suzuki wants their EVs to not just be accessible, but even acceptable in the real world use case.
Maruti Suzuki’s new e Vitara is inspired by the concept of an emotional & versatile cruiser, so they say. It will offer the best of features, but also be practical at the same time. Looking at the product which was revealed overseas a few weeks ago, the design is inoffensive, and has typical SUV proportions. Expect LED lights all around, large alloy wheels, healthy dose of body cladding, ADAS & a tough body shell to meet the safety norms.
On the inside, potential customers will be offered a connected dual screen display for speedometer & infotainment, a multi-function steering wheel, sunroof, dual tone colour scheme, minimalist design with fewer buttons, practical storage options, and a completely new cabin configuration since it is based on an EV platform, so expect a flat rear floor with more foot room for passengers.
When launched, expect the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara to rival the likes of Tata Curvv.Ev & Mahindra BE 6 (BE 6E). So considering this, expect pricing strategy in the range of INR 15 – 25 lakh ex-showroom.
Codenamed as the YY8, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara based on the new skateboard platform could arrive with 2 battery pack options – 49 kWh & 61 kWh. The bigger battery option will get an optional dual-motor drivetrain along with AWD which is being called the AllGrip-e. BYD is likely to supply the LFP blade cells battery packs. Range for the top trims is expected to cross the 500 km number, at least as per certification tests. Real world numbers could differ.
