Maruti Suzuki has announced that its currently working on a coupe-styled compact SUV utilizing the Heartect platform. According to Maruti Suzuki, the compact SUV codenamed the YTB will be a premium alternative to the Vitara Brezza. The automaker has also stated that the new compact SUV will go on sale in India via its NEXA dealership range.
Based on reports, Maruti Suzuki’s new coupe-style, compact SUV has taken inspiration from the Futuro-e concept. The brand states that it aims to target a younger audience with vivid contemporary styling and sporty credentials. However, Maruti Suzuki’s current-gen Vitara Brezza uses the Suzuki Global C platform, which is also featured on the S-cross. This is precisely why Maruti Suzuki aims to implement the new Heartect platform for their new upcoming SUV.
Once Maruti Suzuki launches the new compact SUV in India, it will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. According to reports, the new SUV will sport a higher price tag than the Vitara Brezza, along with numerous features. Currently, Maruti Suzuki has not revealed any details or information regarding the interior of the new compact SUV. It is highly likely that the new SUV will share the same switchgear from the upcoming, updated Baleno and Brezza.
Similar to the current-gen Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki will likely borrow the same 1.5-litre engine for the new SUV. However, the brand has stated that unlike the mid-hybrid tech on offer, the new YTB SUV will feature enhanced electrification. Maruti Suzuki has not released the timeline of release for the new SUV, but it may introduce it by 2023. Currently, the automaker is working on 5 different SUVs to cater to a wide variety of masses and segments.
Recently, Maruti Suzuki also announced that it would offer dual airbags as standard on its multi-purpose, people-carrier, the Eeco. Being the automaker’s long-running product, the Eeco celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2020 and features 5 or 7-seat options. The brand has also ensured to revise the prices of the Eeco after the addition of the passenger-side airbag. The Maruti Suzuki Eeco now costs INR 4.38 lakh (ex-showroom).
