Maruti Suzuki along with Toyota Tsusho Group will be recycling and dismantling cars in India. This would be a one-of-a-kind initiative in our market and a new entity Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India Private Limited (MSTI) has been formed. This is a 50:50 equity stake venture and both brands will contribute for the greater good. The company has set base for their headquarters in New Delhi, India and their first vehicle dismantling and recycling facility will open up in Noida, Uttar Pradesh by 2020-21.
MSTI will perform the job to source and dismantle vehicles which are at the end of their life cycle. The process used for this would include solid and liquid waster management as set by the laws and will meet the global quality and environment protection standards. While the Noida facility would be the first, MSTI will set up more such units across India for better sourcing and recycling.
For the first facility in the initial stages, the vehicle dismantling and recycling capacity would be 2,000 vehicles / month. MSTI will initiate contact with dealers and directly with customers as well for sourcing of old cars nearing their ELVs. Scrapping of older cars which are just a nuisance on streets, parked and eating up real estate would free up some space. Also, cars beyond the ELV when scrapped would also help reduce / control pollution. The older cars, if poorly maintained also pose a safety threat to other road users.
A team of trained technicians will perform this dismantling and recycling process. Toyota Tsusho has been recycling ELV cars in Japan since 1970. With the Indian car market growing y-o-y, the scrapping of old cars is a must.
