Maruti Suzuki Swift has had 2.3 million buyers in India in 15 years

Maruti Suzuki has announced that the much-popular Maruti Suzuki Swift has become the best-selling car in the premium hatchback segment for the calendar year 2020 with over 2.3 Million units sold in the past 15 years. Despite the COVID-19 lockdown, the brand sold over 160,700 units in CY 2020, taking it to the top spot in the segment. The company boasts that the Swift brand has created new benchmarks in the industry and is one of the most favoured vehicles in the Indian market. Furthermore, the Maruti Suzuki Swift features a global design, styling and comes with a powerful yet efficient powertrain. 

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has also garnered the coveted Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) award three times, one each for its generations. The brand has also revealed that the Maruti Suzuki Swift is more in demand with the young crowd and 53% of the buyers were less than 35 years of age, establishing itself as ‘Coming of the Age’ car. The popularity is thanks to the features offered on the Swift such as the prominent radiator grille, sweptback LED headlamps, cockpit-style interiors and the car being value-for-money. 

Data released by JATO Dynamics, further reveals that Maruti Suzuki sells a monthly average of 15,798 units of the Swift and 7 out of the 10 highest selling vehicles have been from the Indo-Japanese brand. The brand offers the Maruti Suzuki Swift in 7 trims with prices starting INR 5.19 lakhs ex-showroom for the base LXi variant and goes up to INR 8.02 lakhs ex-showroom for the range-topping ZXi trim.

In the recent past, Maruti Suzuki also launched a range of accessories for the Maruti Suzuki Swift, during the 2020 festive season to boost the sales of the car and allow customers to make further enhancements to their vehicles. The range of accessories included sporty exterior embellishments, bumpers, side skirts, spoilers and well as accessories for the interiors. 

Powering the Swift is a BS6 emission-compliant 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed AMT gearbox. The brand is also expected to launch a mild facelift of the Swift in the near future which will be in-line with the Swift marketed in the international market. The engine is expected to be carried over from the outgoing car.
