Maruti Suzuki has already updated their Alto and Baleno models earlier this year with the new BSVI compliant petrol engine and now the popular hatchback offering Swift gets the BSVI engine update on its petrol variants. The diesel model of the car has not received the update and is speculated to be phased-out, post BSVI enforcement.
The Swift comes with a 1,197cc, petrol engine which produces 83 HP of power and 113 Nm of torque and the upgraded engine produces the same output but according to a media report, it is speculated to return, slightly less fuel efficiency figure at 21.2 kmpl. In terms of safety, Swift also gets an update to conform to the new AN-145 safety norms. The car came with standard with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and a driver side seat belt reminder and now it comes with additional features such as a co-driver seat belt reminder, over speed alert system and rear parking sensors as a standard part of the pack.
The update does come at a price and the Maruti Suzuki Swift now starts at INR 5.14 lakh which is INR 15,000 more than the BSIV car.
