Maruti Suzuki India has announced its sales performance for May 2021. The manufacturer records a total sales of 46,555 units in May 2021. This includes 33,771 units in domestic sales, 1,522 units of vehicle sales to other OEMs and 11,262 units in exports.
In the mini passenger vehicle segment, including the Maruti Suzuki Alto and S-Presso, the brand registers 4,760 units in sales. In May 2020, Maruti Suzuki reported sales of 1,995 units. The compact segment includes the WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire and Tour S. The brand recorded 20,343 in May 2021 and 6,262 units sales in May 2020.
The mid-size segment, which includes the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, sold 349 units in May 2021 compared to 192 units in May 2020. The total sales for the passenger car segment stood at 25,452 units sold in May 2021. In 2020, the brand managed to sell 8,449 units in the corresponding month.
In May 2021, Maruti Suzuki sold 6,355 units of Ertiga, XL6, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and the Gypsy. In 2020 the company managed to sell 3,636 units in the segment. Also, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco, which is much popular in the van segment, shows sales of 1,096 units in May 2021. Compared to the corresponding month last year, the brand sold 1,617 units.
The light commercial vehicle segment of Maruti Suzuki includes only the Super Carry. The LCV registered sales of 868 units in May 2021. When compared to the corresponding month last year, the brand sold 163 units.
Maruti Suzuki exported 11,262 units in May 2021 compared to the exports of 4,651 units in May 2020.
It is important to note that due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the brand suspended production from 1st May through 16th May 2021. Maruti Suzuki shut the production to divert industrial oxygen for medical purposes as an acute shortage in medical oxygen was observed throughout the country. Due to the second wave of COVID-19, the brand witnessed production disruption due to lockdowns. A similar disruption due to lockdown was also observed in May 2020, and neither months have standard production days and thus are not comparable.
