Maruti Suzuki sales cross 20 Million units in India

Well, we all know that Maruti Suzuki is the king of the ring in the Indian car market. The brand has dominated market share for decades thanks to mega mass market acceptance. Now, Maruti Suzuki has crossed an iconic milestone of having sold 20 million passenger cars in India. Maruti Suzuki is the only car company in the history of Indian automotive market to have crossed this figure. Maruti Suzuki has been selling cars to Indians since December 1983 which makes it a total of 37 years to have achieved this milestone number.

A point to note is that the first 10 million car sales took 29 years while the next 10 million car sales came in a mere 8 year period. We doubt there would be any car manufacturer which will be able to beat this record here in our market.

Maruti Suzuki had their first car, the Maruti 800 roll out of their plant on 14 December 1983 and it began a new way of personal mobility in India thanks to compact dimensions. The Maruti 800 back in the day was quite a revolution and millions have bought this car home and was referred to as the people’s car. It was the demand that Maruti Suzuki created which encouraged other car manufacturers to set shop on Indian soil.

As we move to 2020, Maruti Suzuki is all set to ditch diesel-powered cars and continue their journey only with BSVI compliant petrol cars and bi-fuel kits like LPG & CNG. The new crop of Maruti Suzuki cars meet the safety and crash test norms and of course, are the most fuel-efficient in their respective segments. Maruti Suzuki is also the only brand that sells smart hybrid solutions across multiple products in their portfolio which also adds a feather in their hat. The brand has already started selling 8 cars with BSVI engines and the rest of the products will be ready ahead of the timeline.

Maruti Suzuki is also working on introducing a compact electric vehicle in India, which we all know is a new WagonR based electric hatchback. There are more than 50 prototypes of this EV running across the length and breadth of India for testing and validation across terrain and climate.
