Maruti Suzuki has issued a voluntary recall for the petrol hybrid variants of Ciaz, Ertiga & XL6. The Smart Hybrid SHVS variants recalled account for a total of 63,493 units manufactured between 1st January 2019 to 21st November 2019. The brand mentions that this recall has been announced keeping customer safety in mind and all potential safety defects or faulty parts would be checked.
The problem with these cars which are subject to recall have a problem with the motor generator unit (MGU). The brand claims that the problem might be due to a manufacturing defect from a global part supplier. Maruti Suzuki will contact each of these car owners and have their cars inspected. Those cars which do not have any fault, will be released immediately without the customer having to waste any of his / her time. The cars in which this MGU is faulty, the cars will be held at the service centers and the part replacement will be done free of cost.
Maruti Suzuki also mentions that if the customer needs an alternate transport, that can be arranged.
Maruti Suzuki will begin this recall campaign from the 6th of December 2019.
Maruti Suzuki is the only mass market car manufacturer which offers such smart hybrid technology in affordable cars. The brand is also going to discontinue diesel cars in the near future, by the BSVI implementation date, which makes the success of these petrol & petrol hybrid engines even more crucial. As of now the Baleno, Ciaz, XL6 & Ertiga are the cars which get this engine with hybrid tech.
The Baleno has not been affected in this recall campaign.
