Promoting the alternative fuel of CNG, Maruti Suzuki has launched the Grand Vitara S-CNG in two variants. The Delta S-CNG variant is priced at INR 12,85,000 while the Zeta S-CNG is priced at INR 14,84,000.
Recently, Toyota also announced the CNG version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Grand Vitara and Hyryder were jointly developed by Toyota and Maruti.
What new in the Grand Vitara S-CNG?
Maruti has incorporated its tried and tested CNG technology called as the S-CNG in the newest SUV from the company. The Grand Vitara is currently offered in mild hybrid, strong hybrid and an all-wheel drive option as well. This new CNG model will help the Grand Vitara to reach a wider audience.
Further, following the discontinuation of diesel engines, Maruti has been lacking an option for those customers which have high annual running. Hence, the move to launch CNG variants. While it is not a replacement for diesel, those on the fence could be swayed to buy the Grand Vitara thanks to this.
Powertrain of the Grand Vitara S-CNG
The SUV will make use of the same 1.5-litre K-Series dualjet engine with VVT. In the CNG form, the engine puts out 87 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 121.5 Nm @ 4,200 rpm. When running on petrol, the engine develops 99 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 136 Nm @ 4,400 rpm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is paired with the engine.
In terms of fuel economy, on CNG mode, Maruti claims a 26.6 km/kg as per the ARAI test figures.
Features of the Grand Vitara S-CNG
One of the key differentiators for this CNG model is the fact that it offers users the choice to opt for a version with 6-airbags. Other features include SmartPlay Pro+ Infotainment system, Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and in-built Next Gen Suzuki Connect, with 40+ connected features.
