Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one of the most keenly awaited cars. Maruti has teased us by the various test mules that have been spotted all across the country. While enthusiasts are expecting a 3-door Jimny, Maruti is likely to launch the 5-door version in India.
Now, one more test mule of the car has been spotted testing. This time around, an information sheet stuck on the rear window is visible, which reveals the engine details of the Jimny.
It has now been confirmed that Maruti will offer a 1.5-litre K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine on the Jimny. This motor is capable of generating 104 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque. It is likely to be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox while an automatic option could also be on the cards. While international variants come with a 4×4 and low range gearbox as standard, it is not yet clear if it will be offered as standard on the Indian Jimny.
On the outside, it will get round LED headlights, butch, muscular bumpers and G-wagen-esque boxy exteriors. In terms of size, it is quite small compared to rivals like the Mahindra Thar or the Force Gurkha.
While Jimny is a pretty bare-bones vehicle, it will include all the necessary features like a touchscreen infotainment unit, steering mounted audio controls, automatic climate control, electrically operated outside rear view mirrors (ORVM) etc.
While it will head against the likes of the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha, the 5-door Jimny could create a niche for itself as well. Both Mahindra and Force Motors are also working on the 5-soor version of their offerings. In terms of pricing as well, the Jimny is expected to under-cut its rival.
