Maruti Suzuki first showcased the Jimny 5-door at Auto Expo 2023 in January. At that time, we got to learn a lot of details about the new Jimny 5-door. Like, its fuel efficiency figures were also not shared. However, now Maruti Suzuki has officially revealed the rugged SUV’s fuel efficiency figures at a recent media drive.
The Jimny 5-door comes equipped with a 1.5-litre K15B engine. This engine makes 105 HP and 134.2 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. It also benefits from Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case. Thus it now gets a low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes. Customers can have the Jimny 5-door in two trims, namely, Zeta and Alpha.
The manual gearbox-equipped Jimny 5-door comes with a fuel efficiency of 16.94 kmpl. Meanwhile, the automatic gearbox version gets a fuel efficiency figure of 16.39kpl. With a full fuel tank of 40 litres, the Jimny manual could travel a total distance of up to 678 km. Meanwhile, the automatic version can cover up to 656 km. But, noteworthy to mention, we expect the real-world range not matching the above figures.
Bookings for the rugged SUV are currently open. Maruti Suzuki mentioned that it has racked up around 30,000 bookings. Given the demand, the waiting period for the manual variants can stretch up to six months upon launch. Meanwhile, the automatic variants might have a waiting period of up to eight months. We were made aware that Maruti Suzuki rolled out the first Jimny 5-door from its plant in Gurugram.
As per sources, the prices for the Jimny 5-door could be out in the first week of June. Jimny will give a tight competition to the only rival in this segment, Mahindra Thar. Talking of the price range, we are expecting that the Jimny will retail in the range of INR 10 to INR 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
