Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra in India could get 1.5L petrol motor, 102 PS & 130 Nm

Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the Jimny Sierra in the Indian market. Speculations are that the Jimny Sierra will come in a stretched 5-door avatar for India. The three-door Suzuki Jimny measures 3550mm in length, 1645mm in width, 1730mm in height with a wheelbase of 2250mm.

Leaked Documents

But leaked documents reveal that the Jimny Sierra in India will measure 3,850 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width, 1,730 mm in height and it has a wheelbase of 2,550 mm. Compared to the three-door model the wheelbase, as well as the overall length, is 300mm longer than the three-door version. The documents also reveal that the SUV is not just a stretched long-wheelbase version but comes with 5-doors.

Documents also reveal the engine specification of the Jimny Sierra. According to the documents, Powering the Jimny Sierra will be a K15B series 1.5-litre four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC engine. The engine makes 102 PS of power and 130 Nm of torque. The K15B features a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic.

 Jimny Off-Road Specifications

The Suzuki Jimny also comes with a part-time 4 wheel drive system (ALLGRIP PRO). The ALLGRIP PRO is a low ratio gearbox that can be engaged using a lever between the driver and co-driver. The low-ratio box is helpful when Jimny need to traverse over difficult terrain. The Jimny also features a 3-link rigid axle with coil spring suspension on both the front and rear. With short overhangs and a 37-degree approach angle, 28-degree ramp break-over angle, 49-degree departure angle and a 210mm minimum ground clearance, the SUV can tackle tough terrain and rocks with ease.  The Jimny also comes with 15-inch alloy wheels shod in all-terrain tyres.

Safety Features

In the international market, the Suzuki Jimny features a monocular camera and a laser sensor on the front. This DSBS (Dual Sensor Brake Support) system can detect slow/stopped cars and other obstacles. The system first sounds an audio/visual warning and then starts to apply brakes on the SUV. The Jimny also comes with dual airbags, ABS, EBD, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, fatigue alert etc.
