Maruti Suzuki Ignis crosses 1 lakh sales milestone

Maruti Suzuki debuted the Ignis concept at the 2016 Auto Expo followed by its launch in February 2017. The Ignis is a small car sold via the brands premium Nexa dealerships and now a sales milestone of 1 lakh unit has been achieved which comes to around 3,850 cars sold every month since its launch which was 2 years and 2 months ago.

The engine on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a 1.2-litre petrol which produces 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). The Ignis was available in diesel manual and AMT options at the time of its launch, but low sales figures of the diesel variant led to its discontinuation. It continues to sell in a BSIV petrol and will soon be updated to the BSVI emission standard.

Maruti Suzuki will not be updating their old 1.3L diesel engine to BSVI standards and by April 2020, when the new emission standards are enforced Maruti Suzuki will discontinue some of their diesel cars from the Indian market. However, it is speculated that Maruti Suzuki will bring an upgraded BSVI standard engine for its SUVs as it still has substantial market share. Maruti Suzuki has already upgraded the Alto and Baleno with a BSVI petrol engine.

In terms of safety,  Maruti Suzuki Ignis came equipped with ABS and airbags since its launch and was recently upgraded with new safety features like over speed indicator, reverse parking sensor and seat belt reminder as per the ARAI mandate.
