Timeline of growth of Maruti Suzuki

The first car to roll out under the Maruti Suzuki badge was the humble 800. It began its sales in December 1983. By February 2006, the carmaker had sold 5 million cars. Maruti first launched the CNG variants in August 2010.

In February 2012, the carmaker achieved the 10 million sales milestone. This number was doubled by July 2019. Here, it has to be noted that it took Maruti almost 20 years to achieve the first 10 million but just 7 years to sell the next 10 million units.

By February of 2022, total sales of CNG vehicles stood at 1 million. With a strong demand as well as a larger choice, CNG sales have started to increase from this point onward.

Finally, the 25 million mark was surpassed in January 2023.
