Maruti Suzuki recently launched the fourth-generation Swift in the Indian market. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is now available with a single petrol engine and two transmission options. However, it was being rumoured that Maruti Suzuki could also bring the sporty Swift RS model to India with a turbo-petrol engine and mild hybrid technology. But, a media report reveals that the brand is not planning to bring the performance-oriented model to India. Instead, Maruti Suzuki could bring the CNG Bi-Fuel variant for sale.
It was being rumoured that the Swift RS will make it to India as a single unit was spotted, probably brought here for testing. However, the test mule was in its third generation and long before the launch of the current generation Swift. But the brand does not plan to take the very expensive CBU route to bring the Swift RS. To put things into perspective, the new Swift starts with a price tag of INR 6.49 lakh ex-showroom. If Maruti plans to bring the turbo-petrol Swift, the price gap between the standard Swift and the sporty model is likely to be huge.
In the international market, the Swift Sport or Swift RS is powered by a 1.4-litre BoosterJet turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The engine produces 127 HP of power and 235 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual unit. The car is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.1 seconds and achieving a top speed of 210 kmph. However, if in future the brand plans to launch a sporty Swift for its enthusiasts it could use the 1.0-litre booster jet (turbo-petrol) engine from the India-spec Fronx. Currently, there is no performance variant of the fourth-generation Swift available in the international market.
