In a remarkable achievement, Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara has crossed the 2 lakh unit sales mark in less than 2 years since its launch. The new Grand Vitara made its debut in the Indian market in September 2022, and its popularity has soared ever since.
According to data shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Maruti Suzuki had sold 1,99,550 units of the Grand Vitara by the end of June 2024. The first 1 lakh units were sold within just 12 months following its launch, making it the fastest midsize SUV to achieve this milestone. The subsequent 1 lakh units were sold in a mere 10 months, reflecting the strong demand for this SUV.
In FY2023, Maruti sold 51,315 units of the Grand Vitara, and this figure rose significantly to 1,21,169 units in the following fiscal year. As of now, in FY2025, the carmaker has already sold 27,066 units, further solidifying the Grand Vitara’s position in the market.
The SUV is currently available with two engine options. First is a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid that makes 102 BHP and 137 Nm. Second is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol strong-hybrid powertrain.
Last year, Maruti also added a CNG variant of the car. The Grand Vitara S-CNG uses a 1.5-litre engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It makes 87 BHP and 121.5 Nm when running on CNG.
In the calendar year 2022, Maruti Suzuki registered an export of over 2.6 lakh vehicles. This is its highest ever exports in a calendar year. With the addition of the Grand Vitara, the Company aims to further strengthen its position as India’s leading passenger vehicle exporter. There’s a rising demand for SUVs in the market, both domestically and overseas. Thus, starting off with the export of the Grand Vitara makes so much sense. The vehicle is a complete overall package that scores highly in almost all aspects.
The Grand Vitara competes with other midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, and Kia Seltos. Its blend of style, performance, and practicality has resonated well with Indian buyers, contributing to its impressive sales figures.
