We had reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the Engage MPV in India. The MPV is nothing but the rebadged Toyota Innova HyCross. Now, the vehicle has been spotted undisguised for the first time ahead of its launch.
Maruti Suzuki Engage : More Details
We can clearly see the new grille of the car. It gets a prominent S logo in the middle with twin horizontal slats. This design is similar to the grille of the Grand Vitara SUV as well.
Otherwise, the rest of the design elements have been unchanged. The alloy wheels are carried as it is, save for the Suzuki branded centre caps.
It is not yet clear from the photos, but the headlights could also have a different DRL design than the Toyota’s.
The Toyota Innova Hycross currently is sold in five variants. The MPV is offered in both 7 and 8-seater configurations. Maruti is likely to offer similar seating configurations across the variants.
Maruti Suzuki Engage MPV : Powertrain
Based on the TNGA-C architecture, the Maruti Suzuki Engage will likely carry the same powertrain options. These include a 2.0-litre NA petrol and a 2.0-litre hybrid engine. The NA version is rated at 172 BHP and 197 Nm while the system output of the hybrid system is 182 BHP. A CVT transmission powers the front wheels.
There is no diesel engine on offer. That said, it is also possible that Maruti could introduce a CNG variant at a later stage. However, this is mere speculation and no official word is out yet.
Maruti-Toyota Alliance in India
The Japanese duo entered in to an alliance back in 2017. Under this alliance, the car makers collaborated on badge-engineered models as well as other technologies. At present, we have the Baleno-Glanza, Brezza-Urban Cruiser, Grand Vitara-Hycross and the upcoming Engage-Innova Hycross collaborations in India.
