Maruti Suzuki Dzire gets more safety features with price hike

Maruti Suzuki has updated the compact-sedan car Dzire to new Automotive Industry Standard AIS-145 safety norms which are going to be enforced from 1st of July 2019. The updates have increased the car’s price by INR 3,000 to INR 13,000 depending on the variants. The new mandate dictates the following safety features to be made available on the road going passenger car:

  • Driver airbag
  • Seat belt reminder for both driver and passenger
  • ABS
  • Over speed alert
  • Rear parking sensors

ABS and a Dual Airbag feature has been a standard feature on the current Dzire model. The latest fifth-generation car features the HEARTECT platform which complies with frontal offset, side impact, and pedestrian safety regulations. The car is also awaiting the BSVI update which is expected to come soon. The current Maruti Suzuki Dzire comes in two fuel options with the diesel variant returning a fuel economy of 28.4 kmpl which is considered the best in the industry for passenger cars. The petrol, on the other hand, delivers fuel efficiency of 22.0 kmpl.

The specifications of the petrol and diesel engines are as follows:-

Petrol

1,197cc 4-cylinder petrol which produces 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

Diesel

1,248cc 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 74.7 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual and an optional 5-speed AMT.

The sedan measures at 3995mm in length, 1735mm in width, 1515mm in height with a wheelbase of 2450mm. The compact sedan gets a 378-litre boot space a 37-litre fuel tank and the Dzire can seat 5 people.

The sedan car has a market share of 55% in its segment. Maruti Suzuki has sold over 19 lakh units and in 2018-19 the brand sold 2.5 lakh units making the average monthly sales of 21,000 units. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire competes with the likes of the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor and Ford Aspire.
