Maruti Suzuki cuts car prices by INR 5,000

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Maruti Suzuki has announced a price reduction on a few of their car models in India. Thanks to corporate tax reduction, this benefit of INR 5,000 will be passed on to the customers and expects to boost sales, if at all this amount makes a difference. Nevertheless, it is good to note a brand proactively reducing prices on cars in tough times.

Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift Diesel, Celerio, Baleno Diesel, Ignis, Dzire Diesel, Tour S Diesel, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross models will benefit from this INR 5,000 cost revision. The revised prices will come into effect from 25th September, 2019 and will be applicable pan India. If at all any dealer is offering discounts on particular models, and other promotional benefits will be additional over and above this INR 5,000 reduction in price.

Maruti Suzuki has well timed this price reduction during the festive season of 2019.

At the moment, the brand is gearing up to launch the S-Presso mini-SUV in India. It is nothing but a hatchback to rival the likes of Renault Kwid, and will be priced between INR 4 – 6 lakh ex-showroom. The S-Presso is expected to slot in a price band overlapping with the Celerio and will be bigger than the Alto range, but a tad bit smaller than the Wagon-R.

Maruti Suzuki also launched the XL6 premium MPV recently which is based on the Ertiga and is a 6-seater crossover variant sold via the Nexa showrooms.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to drop their range of diesel powered cars once the BSVI emission norms kick in. This is being done since the cost involved in upgrading diesel cars to BSVI and the asking price of these cars in the ex-showroom price tag will make very little business sense. However, rival brands like Hyundai are betting big on diesels still and have their engines ready to be BSVI compliant.
