Maruti Suzuki has launched the Ciaz with a bigger diesel engine. The new DDiS 225 motor replaces the old DDiS 200 engine which was a Fiat-sourced motor. Also, this all-new 1.5L DDiS 225 engine has been developed in-house, and now makes more power under the hood of the Ciaz. The Ciaz sedan received a facelift last year, and the bigger diesel engine is expected to give the sales numbers a boost.
Also, this same DDiS 225 engine will be seen in the all-new Ertiga MPV.
The new 1.5L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged, DDiS 225 diesel engine produces 95 PS of power @ 4000 RPM and 225 Nm of torque @ 1500-2500 RPM. The engine is matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is no automatic gearbox option on offer at the moment. Maruti Suzuki claims that with the high efficiency turbocharger, the DDiS 225 motor will generate better low-end torque for good city driveability. The engine also gets a dual mass flywheel and better NVH levels than before. Made with light aluminium cast cylinder head and block, the engine is lighter and more efficient.
The Ciaz with this new 1.5L DDiS 225 engine will be sold in 3 variants. Maruti Suzuki reveals that this mid-size sedan has demand for more than 54% for its top trim. The Ciaz is now sold with 1.5L petrol and diesel engines.
