The largest car manufacturer in India, now sees strong demand for automatic cars even in the budget segment. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that they have clocked more than 6 lakh passenger car sales with an automatic gearbox option. The highlight has been the Auto Gear Shift (AGS) or as we all know the AMT gearbox which has seen over 5 lakh sales within this 6 lakh milestone. Maruti Suzuki states that the demand for automatic cars has increased with the introduction of the Celerio AGS back in 2014. In 2018-19 alone, the brand dispatched more than 2 lakh cars with an automatic gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki now has a total of 3 automatic gearbox options for the customers. The first is the Auto Gear Shift (AGS) or AMT gearbox which is used on cars such as Alto K10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Dzire and Vitara Brezza. Maruti Suzuki offers AMT with both petrol and diesel engines in certain models. The CVT gearbox is currently used only on the Baleno premium hatchback, and only with the petrol motor. The 4-speed automatic which is a conventional slush box is used on the Ertiga, Ciaz and XL6 products, but again, only with a petrol motor.

Maruti Suzuki also revealed that their range of automatic cars are popular in congested cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune & Chennai. Maruti Suzuki offers an automatic car at affordable price, and also, there is no compromise on fuel efficiency.
